I love the brummie acncet! My maternal grandfather was from that region and came to Canada when he was 17. He and one sister; both lived to be 103 years old and they never lost their acncet. I tell my kids that great-grandpa sounded like Ozzy Osbourne but without the drugs! My maternal great-grandfather was from Newcastle (geordie acncet) and my paternal grandfather was from Edinbourgh. With a celtic history of various English acncets,Scottish, bit of Irish,German and French my childhood was filled with wonderful acncets. Now at age 53, I can still tell my customers where they are from based on their acncets and slang. Within a half hour of hanging out with british /scottish/irish friends and relatives or watching movies with british/scottish/irish/german acncets I start talking with the acncets and using the slang ! I confess once in awhile I listen to the acncets and dialects of the UK on the internet when I am remembering by deceased relatives. My brummie grandfather would call me Gwendolyn instead of Wendy and my younger brother Kelvin instead of Kevin. Boy I miss those days!!
